Indiana Train Accident

Indiana Conservation Officer Erick Bolt is investigating an off-road vehicle accident that occurred on May 1, 2008, at approximately 11:15 am.

Trent J. Klopfenstein, 24, of South Milford, Indiana, was operating a four-wheeler on a trail on the east side of the west junction of State Road 3, south of U.S. 6.  The throttle stuck on the atv, causing it to jump the north railroad track and strike a stationary train sitting on the south railroad track.  Klopfenstein was ejected from the atv, which came to rest under the train. The train then began to move and travel east, dragging the atv approximately .4 of a mile.  The atv was a total loss.

Klopfenstein received a minor wrist injury as a result of the accident.

Indiana Conservation Officer Erick Bolt was assisted by the Kendallville Police Department.
